Carolyn Repka, Artist
My work is an exploration of freedom of thought, color and design. I use acrylic paints on canvas with frequent use of pure powder pigment, ink, texture, sand, acrylic mediums and multiple layers of glazing. I hope the viewers appreciate the color, form and balance in my art and interpret the work in their own way. I love creating art. Sometimes it's a bit playful and a little crazy with a lot of fun in the creation process. I have been inspired by and have great admiration for the artists Rothko, DeKooning, Gorky, Pollack, collage artists Louise Cadillac and Nina Bagley and many, many talented local artists in my community.
My art has been displayed in galleries in Northern Illinois, Door County, Wisconsin and Womanspace in Rockford, IL with participation in 10 Art Scenes in Rockford, Art on the Lawn at Rockford College, Just Goods, North Main Studios and most recently at Bennie's in Rockford. I also participate in local Holiday Shows. I was fortunate to have been a Featured Artist three times at Eau Gallie Gallery, with works published in the 'Art Rockford' coffee table book, as well as various art brochures and The Rockford Register Star. My works have been donated to charitable organizations. I am a member of Rockford Area Arts Council and The Rockford Art Guild. My art can be viewed and purchased at Fine Art America, Pixels.com Society6.com. Until recently, I was one of the founding members of Women in Art X 3. In 2011, the three members brought the organization to a close to pursue other artistic endeavors. From 2004 to 2011, we organized up to 4 shows a year showcasing local artists. A portion of the art sales were donated to various charitable organizations and we had the pleasure of introducing young artists to the art community.
